My representational watercolors are a personal response to the subject.
I want the ambiguities to intrigue and interest the viewer, by not "telling all"
I hope to include the viewer and accomplish this.
I take a sculptural approach in my collages using acrylic paint, watercolor,
colored pencil, ephemeral materials and found objects. Texture is the dominant
element, the content is the contrast of the juxtaposed textures and objects and the
viewers reaction to them. These paintings begin with collage or color layering in
a "lost and found" method. Layering is the philosophy of connecting spiritual
energies with art. The act of painting, scraping, repainting and uncovering what
has been lost creates textures as well as depth and dimension to the work. I also
at times employ symbolism and whimsy. I feel I have merely touched the surface.
